Popular Trails:

  • Vereda do Areeiro (PR1): This trail links Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo, the two highest peaks on the island. About 7 kilometres long, it offers breathtaking panoramic views and is considered one of Madeira's most emblematic trails.
  • Levada das 25 Fontes and Levada do Risco (PR6 e PR6.1): Trails that lead hikers through the lush Laurissilva Forest, past impressive waterfalls and serene lagoons. The total length is approximately 11 kilometres, making it one of the most popular trails on the island.
  • Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço (PR8): Located on the eastern tip of Madeira, this trail of around 8 kilometres (round trip) stands out for its arid and coastal landscapes, contrasting with the rest of the island. The rock formations and views of the ocean are truly unique.

Climbing Locations:

  • Pico do Areeiro: With an altitude of 1,818 metres, this place offers climbing routes ranging from 10 to 30 metres high, suitable for different levels of experience. The surrounding landscape and pure mountain air make the experience even more enriching.
  • Caniçal (Baía d’Abra): Located on the eastern tip of the island, it offers climbing routes up to 15 metres high, ideal for beginners and intermediate climbers. The proximity to the sea and the unique rock formations offer a spectacular setting for climbing.
  • Terreiro da Luta: Located near Funchal, this basalt rock outcrop has several routes equipped for sport climbing, including the ‘Reboque’ route, with a total length of 51 metres spread over three widths.
